9 Tips To Help You Focus When Studying

psych-facts:

1. Get Rid of Distractions

This should be pretty obvious right? But actually, it’s not. We often get distracted without realizing that we already are. Once distracted, we engage in the new task and we don’t pay attention to what we were originally supposed to do.

Instead, to get rid of distractions, identify what distract you and then take proactive measures to not let them distract you again. For example, if it’s the internet, television or people, then you might want to consider studying at the library.

However, sometimes distractions can be thoughts that are intrusive. For instance, thoughts stemming from anxieties or worries. If this is the case, there is only so much you can do about them. You can try seeking professional help, dealing with the cause of anxiety or worries, or doing your best to distract yourself from those thoughts.

2. Avoid Procrastinating

Sometimes, we don’t begin on the task because we are already distracted. If this happens, put the distractions away and tell yourself that you will start the task for 5 minutes straight. Generally, you should find that the 5 minutes is enough to motivate you to continue, but if it doesn’t, then you may want to consider re-evaluating what’s important to you or what’s really keeping you from starting.

Starting a secondary blog.

I’ve long since realized that tumblr does a TERRIBLE job at archiving posts. Sure, it’s ordered chronologically…but in tile format? What efficiency exists in that!?

My tumblr has basically become a mass of reblogs. And occasional posts. AND MORE REBLOGGING!

Anyways, I’m starting up a blog to actually write. It’s password protected at the moment…because to this day, I’m still paranoid that people will steal my intellectual property. I’ll probably have a mirror blog on a different platform too because tumblr is sssooooooooo good at aggregating everything—it’s just there.

But if I aspire to be a writer, I must travel outside of my comfort zone…right?

(If you’d like to read what I’m writing, send me a NON-anonymous ask, and I can send you the password. Or if you know me personally, contact me outside of tumblr.)

Why Your Relationships Fail

psych-quotes:

Do your relationships always fail? Do you have trouble sustaining a relationship no matter how much you like him or her? There could be something going on behind the scenes that is keeping you from relationship happiness. Here are 8 reasons why your relationships always fail:

1.    You send mixed signals. Your past partners might have gotten frustrated if you sent mixed signals. Your relationships may have failed if your words and actions conflicted each other. Sending mixed signals means that your partners never know where they stand with you and it’s not long before they get sick of guessing.

2.    You aren’t a good communicator. Communication is a major component of a successful relationship, so if it’s not your strong suit it can explain why your past relationships haven’t been successful. If you haven’t been able to effectively communicate your wants and needs, it’s likely to have caused conflicts.

3.    You don’t treat your partners well. It’s easy to fall out of the honeymoon stage of a relationship and turn into a nag or start being critical or bossy towards your partner. If you fall into this habit in your relationships it could be the reason why they fail. Your partner wants to feel special and appreciated, not be nagged at or criticized.

I love when you are at a show and something happens in which your faith in humanity is so awesomely restored. Last night at the Fall Out Boy gig, amidst the sea of screaming kids, was this guy. He told me that he had waited his “entire life” to be where he was. According to the security guards he was ushered to the front barrier after an 18 hour wait out side the Metro in Sydneys CBD. His excitement was something of a great beauty. As we were sorting our gear and lenses of choice for the show, I looked behind and noticed that old mate was holding a guiding stick over the barrier. Buddy was blind, as the band kicked off into the first track Thriller, the vigor and excitement that came from this young kid… I’ll tell you what, I am still getting shivers even thinking about it. So whilst I was ironically capturing the band for a bunch of people who would look over the pics and say “Oh that was a good night”… Or for the sea of kids who were watching the gig through any number of portable device screens. This guy was there, living his dream. Kudos.

Love this story.
